Personal Experiences with Acupuncture
As a very active person who loves sports, I have repeatedly experienced the limits of conventional medicine, which is why I started looking for alternative methods. I came across Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) and acupuncture in the early years of my medical education.
My StoryA Modern Approach to an Ancient Practice
I emphasize evidence-based medicine and draw on unique, practical experience.
Medical Acupuncture
According to the guiding principle of the German Medical Association for Acupuncture (DÄGfA).
Holistic Medical Care
Including the evaluation of therapy-relevant radiological imaging, if necessary.
Focus on Sports Medicine Pain Therapy
Many years of close cooperation with referring orthopaedic surgeons, trauma surgeons, and sports physicians in identifying the causes and therapeutic indications of corresponding pain syndromes and injury patterns.
Quiet Practice Atmosphere and Multilingual
Sufficient time for diagnostics and therapy. We can speak in German, English, Spanish or French.
Science-Based Therapy
TCM may seem very different from conventional medicine, but these two medical worlds are by no means mutually exclusive. The scientific teaching approach of the German Medical Association for Acupuncture (DÄGfA), shows that the effects of acupuncture can largely be explained scientifically/neurophysiologically.

Beginning acupuncture treatments is very straightforward. Here is the process at a glance:
Detailed medical history interview
including an additional symptom-related physical examination as well as a tongue diagnosis.
Information and patient agreement
An agreement made together that sets out the expectations and responsibilities between the doctor and the patient.
Acupuncture treatment according to TCM criteria
The needles remain in points of the body for about 30 minutes to develop their therapeutic effect, during which time the patient can relax.
Planning any further treatments
Usually around 5-15 treatments, once or twice per week.
Happy Feedback from Patients
The first time I came to Dr. Wirz, I had a knee pain, with which I’ve been by many doctors, but nobody could help me, as there were no reasons identified. I was trying everything… Luckily, my friend recommended me Dr. Wirz. Already after the first acupuncture session, I felt some pain relief. Few weeks later I could restart my jogging practice, enjoy pain-free sport activities and even did multi-day tracking, which I already thought I have to give up. Later I’ve also been by Dr. Wirz with a sudden back pain, which he treated as good and as successfully as my previous problem. Thank you, Dr. Wirz for your very attentive and highly professional approach!
Kristina S.I'd been suffering from knee pain for two years due to incipient osteoarthritis, and Dr. Wirz told me that this therapy was perfectly indicated for this type of problem. I'd never been treated with acupuncture before and was a little apprehensive. Dr. Wirz is very educational and explained what he was going to do to me. I felt absolutely nothing as he stuck dozens of needles into various points around my body (including my head). I remained at rest with the needles for half an hour. At the end of the session, the pain in my knee had almost disappeared. I had another session the next day with a few more needles to get rid of a persistent dry cough. The next day, the cough was a thing of the past and the pain in my knee was much reduced. Of course, two sessions are not enough to treat old pain. I'm going to continue after the vacations. Many thanks to Dr. Wirz. (Translated from French)
